Celebrating the Slide Hampton Octet aims to honor and preserve the vast musical legacy of the great trombonist/composer/arranger/conductor Slide Hampton. The band performs repertoire from Hampton's powerhouse octet of the late '50s-early '60s. Thanks to Slide's magnificent orchestrations, 8 musicians often sound like a full big band of 16. The band's 2019 recording "Slide's Blues" (SmallsLive Records) features Slide himself as a guest soloist on two selections.
